
Professor Amit Chakma
Vice-Chancellor – The University of Western Australia
Professor Amit Chakma is the Vice-Chancellor of The University of Western Australia. He served as President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Western Ontario from 2009 to 2019. Before his tenure at Western, he served as Provost and Vice-President Academic at the University of Waterloo from 2001 to 2009.
In addition to his university leadership roles, Professor Chakma has served as Chair of the Council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities from 2017 to 2019. He was also the Acting Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Asian University for Women from 2013 to 2015 and chaired Canada’s Advisory Panel on International Education Strategy from 2011 to 2013.
In addition to his university leadership roles, Professor Chakma has served as Chair of the Council of the Association of Commonwealth Universities from 2017 to 2019. He was also the Acting Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Asian University for Women from 2013 to 2015 and chaired Canada’s Advisory Panel on International Education Strategy from 2011 to 2013.

Chairman
Peter is a Partner within BDO Australia’s Perth Corporate Finance team (focusing on transactional services and M&A) and one of the two International Liaison Partners for BDO Australia.
He has over 20 years of experience advising companies ranging in size from ASX 100 to large family operations on identifying and executing transactions. Peter has considerable public market corporate transactions experience, including listing companies on various exchanges, focusing on the ASX, TSX, LSE and AIM exchanges. His strength lies in mergers and acquisitions facilitated by his extensive network in the business community.
Having joined BDO in 1998 and appointed Partner in 2006, Peter has gained additional experience working in BDO’s New York and Melbourne offices. He is also a member of BDO’s Natural Resources industry group and the National Lead for the Food & Agribusiness industry group for BDO Australia.
Peter completed a Bachelor of Commerce at UWA in 1998.
Chief Advancement Officer
Fiona is the Chief Advancement Officer at The University of Western Australia
Fiona is a professional fundraiser who enjoyed a successful career in Scotland working in leadership development, conservation, and disability before moving to Australia in 2008. Having commenced at UWA in 2011, Fiona joined the Development and Alumni Relations team in 2012. She was an integral member of the team that successfully raised $430 million for UWA’s New Century Campaign and progressed through several leadership roles, culminating in her appointment as CAO in 2019. In her role, Fiona has responsibility for alumni engagement, philanthropy, and community engagement. Recently, Fiona has been selected to participate in the global CASE Commission on Philanthropy – an international best practice forum that advances philanthropy. Board appointments include the Perth Festival Board and the University Club of Western Australia. In her free time, Fiona enjoys playing masters-level hockey and cooking.
Stephen is a Partner at Clayton Utz, with leading expertise in mergers and acquisitions and securities law. With a strong client focus, he advises boards and senior management of publicly listed and private companies on their activities in Australia and in foreign jurisdictions.
Graduating from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce in 2005, he began his career with Clayton Utz as a winter clerk in 2005, joining the graduate program in 2006 and, after rising through the ranks, was appointed to Partner in 2023.
Stephen advises bidders and target companies on mergers and acquisitions of publicly listed companies and private entities, as well as issuer companies on equity capital raisings, including IPOs, rights issues, share placements, convertible notes and other securities. His strength in M&A and securities is complemented by general corporate advisory expertise, including corporate governance, regulatory compliance issues, strategic legal advice and risk management.
Rhiannon is the People and Culture Manager for a global mining consulting firm where she serves on the Senior Leadership Team, developing and executing key people strategies across all divisions of the company.
Rhiannon is an alumna of the University of Western Australia having completed a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Commerce. She started her career working in a research capacity for the university within both the Business School and Centre for Social Impact.
Her career progressed from there to supporting the global mobilisation of the international workforce of an EPC and energy company in the construction phase of a large-scale LNG project in Australia’s north. Rhiannon then transitioned into consulting, providing people and performance advisory services to tier-one mining, infrastructure and oil & gas companies across Australia.
Rhiannon also strongly believes in giving back to the community in both her professional and personal capacity. Through her current role, Rhiannon has developed partnerships with NGO’s such as Down Syndrome WA, Ronald McDonald House and Dress For Success. In her personal capacity, Rhiannon is actively involved in a number of community organisations, participates in career and industry mentoring programs and holds a number of volunteer board positions. In 2020, Rhiannon was appointed Co-Chair of the University of Western Australia Young Alumni Network. Rhiannon previously held a board position with the United Nations Association of Australia Young Professionals Network and now holds a strategic advisory position to the board.
Associate Professor
Nin is a graduate of UWA. She completed a BA (Hons) with a double major in Philosophy and Literature 2002, and a PhD in Philosophy in 2008.
Nin has worked as an academic in Philosophy at UWA since 2009. She is currently the Discipline Chair of Philosophy and the Deputy Head of the School of Humanities (Community and Outreach). Since 2017, Nin has been the President of the UWA Academic Staff Association.
In her academic role at UWA, Nin’s expertise is in ethics and critical thinking. Her current research focuses on normative and applied ethics, in particular, the application of virtue theory to environmental, bioethical, and technological issues. She also has extensive experience teaching professional ethics, critical thinking and logic, including into disciplines outside philosophy, such as engineering, business and science.
Nin is a staunch supporter of UWA, committed to the history, culture, and academic mission of the University, and its role in promoting the welfare of the Western Australian community.
Chief Financial Officer
As the University of Western Australia’s (UWA) Chief Financial Officer, Leona is responsible for the University’s financial strategy, including; policy and compliance, financial planning and budget, financial administration, financial management and reporting, procurement, and investment and debt portfolios.
Prior to joining the University, Leona held senior leadership positions with KPMG in the Channel Islands, UK and Australia. A Fellow Chartered Accountant with an international career, specialising in providing audit and assurance services and strategic financial advice, Leona brings strong expertise in investment, financial analysis and business strategy to UWA.
As a member of the Executive, Leona advises and supports the University’s strategic priorities, combining her deep understanding of higher education with financial performance to ensure strategic financial alignment in achieving the University’s vision.
Leona also holds positions as the Chair of the UWA Disability Access and Inclusion Working Group and is a Member of the Sisters of St John of God Financial Advisory Committee.

Jay has a deep commitment to advocacy, representation, and improving the lived experience of postgraduate students at UWA. He has been a representative at multiple levels of Guild and University governance and believes strong, principled leadership can turn challenges into solutions with vast opportunities for real change available.
Jay has previously represented students across a wide range of portfolios, including as the UWA Student Guild 2025 Education Council President and Councillor, 2024 Arts Union President, and 2023 BPhil Union Secretary to name a few. These roles have given him the experience and institutional understanding necessary to advocate effectively for postgraduate students.
Nee Nee is a graduate of UWA with a master’s in business administration and a Bachelor of Engineering. With 22 years’ experience, she currently works as an engineer managing interdisciplinary teams for the delivery of projects and providing electrical design work. Nee Nee has continued her association with UWA, as seen more recently in 2015 as a university accreditation accessor, UWA Convocation Awards Convenor and with UWA volunteer positions, such as mentoring.
Nee Nee has extensive leadership, governance, marketing, event organisation and finance experience with not-for-profit and professional organisations. This is evident with the current positions held with Engineers Australia, member of Congress, Electrical College Board, College of Leadership and Management; and National Committee Women in Engineering. She has strong community links and volunteer involvement with the local community.
Roshan brings a unique blend of successful entrepreneurial experience, a strong background in health, and a genuine passion for the hospitality and events sector.
A qualified physiotherapist who holds a Master of Clinical Physiotherapy, Roshan is the founder and principal of his own thriving private practice, A Fine Balance Physiotherapy, established in 2010. His success is built entirely on goodwill, trust, and exceptional customer experience, skills directly transferable and vital to the hospitality world. Furthermore, Roshan has direct experience in the sector as the former Director and co-founder of the local music agency, Tower Music (2019-2021). His diverse experience also includes past roles in hospitality and current service as a Board Member for the Spring Harvest Charity.
Roshan is also an active wine collector, kite surfer, runner and especially enjoys going to live music events.
Vice Chancellor (Operations)
Selina is the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Operations) at the University of Western Australia, responsible for a diverse portfolio including IT, student accommodation, human resources, campus and venues management, safety, integrity and standards unit, strategic assurance and brand, marketing and recruitment. Prior to joining UWA, she held several executive positions with HBF, Bankwest and P&N Bank. She has a proven track record in senior leadership roles across diverse functions and industries with a unique combination of skills and experience in strategic planning, finance, marketing, digital, product development and management, business process excellence, and organisational development. Selina has an MBA (Exec), a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Development, and a Bachelor of Business from Curtin University. She is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a graduate of Leadership WA. In 2004, Selina was recognised as the City of Perth award winner in the WA Business News 40Under40 awards. In 2020, Selina received the Telstra Business Women’s Award for the medium to large business category in WA.

Brad Dawson brings more than 20 years’ experience in private members’ clubs to his role as General Manager. A qualified CPA with a background in accounting across government and private enterprise, Brad transitioned into club management and has held senior leadership roles including General Manager at Royal Perth Golf Club and Hillarys Yacht Club. He combines strong commercial acumen with a deep understanding of the club environment.

Nicole Burchett has over 25 years’ experience in sales and marketing within Western Australia’s hospitality and tourism sectors. Since joining the Club in 2007, Nicole has led membership growth and brand strategy, with a focus on stakeholder engagement, communications and corporate responsibility.

Julie has played a key role in establishing The University Club as one of Australia's most awarded venues.

Costa Simatos brings extensive international experience across five-star hotels in the Middle East, South Africa and Australia. Formerly Executive Sous Chef at the Perth Convention Centre, he joined the Club following senior roles with Hilton. His culinary style reflects his Greek-Cypriot heritage, global influences and a foundation in classical technique, delivering a refined and diverse dining experience.
