Breakfast by the Bay - The "Mental Load" and the Leadership Gender Gap

Research suggests that women often shoulder more of the “mental load” (invisible thinking work that benefits others) than men—not just at home but also at work. At the same time, data show that women are underrepresented in leadership positions.

Could these two disparities be linked? And if so, how can understanding of the mental load help reduce leadership gender gaps? Join a dynamic panel discussion led by Professor Gillian Yeo (Lead Investigator) and Dr Emma Stephenson (Postdoctoral Research Fellow), who are from the UWA research team examining the mental load and leadership under an Australian Research Council Discovery Grant (DP250103954). The session will bring together a group of panel members from diverse roles to share their insights into the mental load, leadership gender gaps, and possible solutions for rebalancing these disparities.

Audience participation is encouraged—your experiences and perspectives as employees, leaders and practitioners will help shape a shared understanding of these issues and inform both research and real-world solutions.
